PRESS RELEASE
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has been announced for Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, PC and Mac.
The third entry in the Counter-Strike series will expand its team-based gameplay with all new modes, maps and weapons.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will also feature updated versions of classic maps, including the iconic ds_dust.
"Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999," said vice president of marketing Doug Lombardi.
"For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headlining competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise.
"Counter-Strike: Global Offensive promises to expand on CS's award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac."
The last entry in the tactical first-person shooter series, Counter-Strike: Source, was released in 2004.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will be developed by Valve in co-operation with Hidden Path Entertainment, and will be released in early 2012.
Valve will formally unveil its next game, DOTA 2, at gamescom in Germany next week.
