I spent time playing the "My Player" mode on NBA 2K12 which I really love. It just makes the game more dynamic and puts you in the front seat of an NBA player's career. The only thing that I don't like about it is that the game kind of dictates what happens in the course of your career. I know they're trying to make it as real as possible but I would still like to have most of the control.
The control that I talk about is being able to control all of the players on the floor that's on your team. I mean the career mode should be focused all around your player. You should be able to control all aspects of that. I would like to be able to play my player the whole game and not just parts of the game. I found when starting out with your new created player he doesn't get a lot of playing time in the beginning. Now this is normal even in the real NBA. They don't necessarily start out a rookie right off the bat unless they're a team that's struggled in the past to win games.
In this instance though I found that you would sub into the first quarter and play most of that, provided that you didn't get into too much foul trouble. If that happens the game automatically subs you out and goes straight to the second quarter. If you're lucky you'll get to play again for a few minutes. If not when you sub into the second quarter the game automatically ends that period then takes you into the third. When you sub into the third you only have about three good minutes of playing time. After that it takes you into the fourth quarter.
Now provided on how well you played in the previous quarters you might get lucky and start in the fourth without subbing. Depending on how the game flow is and whether your team is up or not, the game will sub you out. When you sub back in the game is over. This is what I hate. I wish we had more control of that. I would like to play the whole game rather than go through this very controlled process. I get it though. It's all about being as close to an actual NBA career as possible. Other than that I love the "My Player" mode.
The development period is a little more drawn out this time around. If you can take your rookie through the early parts of the season and play successfully and carefully you'll have a decent player in him towards mid season. If you're struggling though it may take some time to get your player up to par. The "My Player" mode is more challenging than last years version. In NBA 2K11 I had a dynamic player well before the All Star game and the second half of the season. This time around in 2K12 though I've only played a few games it looks like the development process for my created player is gonna take a while.
If you thought you were just gonna breeze through the season easily like in 2K11 think again. In 2K11 I went through the season only losing about three games. In 2K12 you will lose games because as I said before the game basically can dictate outcomes and is also more challenging than the previous installment. Take a look at my video introducing my created player as he goes through team interviews and the draft. He got drafted to the Sixers which is a young developing team. I think he can turn it around though. It's not gonna be easy that's for sure. lol
