Hey everybody I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!! I took an extended vacation away from my blog. I was feeling kind of lazy. But I'm here I am and the blog posts must keep coming! I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving like I did. I sure did eat a lot. I took a trip to visit extended family in Marietta, GA and my aunt and her daughters cooked up a storm. Let's just say I ate really good.
Fearing that I was gonna be bored on the trip I brought my PS3 and PSP for the ride along with some games. Oddly enough with all the games I brought I only found myself playing two. I played a couple of matches of Madden 12 on my PS3 while I was there. The thing that I didn't realize was that my Aunt and they're kids already had a PS3. I should have asked about that. They also had a Nintendo Wii. The only other game I could bring myself to play amongst all the other games I had was The Legend of Zelda III: A Link To The Past.
Now I know what you guys might be thinking. What made think of playing that old game? I thought that myself for a moment. Well I was reading the reviews of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and I just became enamored with the history of The Legend of Zelda series. It's a great series and I have so many memories of playing the various games of the franchise.
The first Legend of Zelda game was a classic which I never finished. The Legend of Zelda 2 was the one I didn't like so much. I felt it took a different path from Zelda 1. One daunting memory that I have of that game was borrowing it from a friend then accidentally erasing his mother's save of the game. She was really angry about that. lol Those were the days where you didn't save the game on the system. You saved the game on the game cartridge which had a save battery installed. When I say she was mad, she was extremely mad. She was a master gamer back then who had progressed extremely far in Zelda II. So when I accidentally deleted her save we were basically enemies. lol
The Legend of Zelda III was basically my favorite game of the bunch. I don't know why I like it so much but I just do. I just remember playing it on my Super Nintendo and just loving it. I couldn't drop the game down. It was very challenging an engaging. It was the one game where I didn't cheat just to get to the end. I spent a lot of time playing it and being immersed in the plot of the story.
Now here I was over Thanksgiving break enjoying the game all over again. This time not on my Super Nintento but on my PSP. PSP? Yep, I said it correctly, my PSP. Now some of you might be wondering how in the world did I get that particular game on my PSP. Well my PSP is basically hacked and I have an emulator running on it that plays Super Nintendo games. I also have other emulators for the original Nintendo and the Sega Genesis. So I'm never bored with my PSP. It has hundreds of games on it. So I spend my whole Thanksgiving playing just that one particular game and loving it.
The emulator I use to play Zelda III is the Snes9xTYL 0.4.2. It might be a little out dated but it still works very well. You'll have to Google the info to see how to install it on your PSP. The thing I like about this emulator is that I can save anywhere on the game with save states and resume where I was exactly in that particular part of the game. The emulator also has a Game Genie cheat function installed as well. So you can use old Game Genie codes on the games you play. They definitely work. I have five that I'm using for Zelda III. Right now I'm in the Dark World of Zelda III trying to collect the seven pendants and save the seven captured girls. So far I saved one girl and have won one pendant. Six more to go!
So this just goes to show you can still get a lot of fun gameplay out of playing old games.
