Ok so I finally beat Uncharted 3: Drake's deception which was another blast just as Uncharted 2: Among Thieves was. It felt a little different from Uncharted 2 though. When I say different I mean shorter. Yeah there was a lot of action and gun fights but not as much as there was in Uncharted 2. It kind of felt like the game was being quickened. You definitely had the feeling of this game being the last in Drake's adventures.
I loved the gun fights but I don't think they were as powerful as in Uncharted 2. I did have the game set on the normal difficulty so I don't know if that made a huge difference. I had the game setting on normal when I played Uncharted 2 and it was quite a challenge to finish especially towards the end of the game. You get a sense of feeling that Uncharted 3 was getting wrapped up in a hurry.
The thing I liked about Uncharted 3 was being able to find the treasures easier. I found more treasures on my first run of Uncharted 3 than I did on Uncharted 2. I found 70 when I finished the Uncharted 3. I only found about 40 when I finished my run on Uncharted 2. Another thing that I disliked was that once you finished the game you didn't get unlimited ammo or access to all the weapons like you did in Uncharted 2. I felt like that was a step back from Uncharted 2. I wanted more of the same. Not only that you're only allowed to carry two weapons and an explosive.
Now that's always been the staple of the series but if it were up to me I would've added a way to hold more weapons. I mean it makes sense since they took away all the weapon bonuses. They tried to make it more realistic that way but what's not so realistic is Drake being able to traverse up tall buildings and mountain ranges so easily. I'm not criticizing, I'm just pointing some things out.
I liked the fact that they brought back Chloe and Elena. Hey, they're hot and they fit well in the series. Not to mention they were Drake's love interests so talk about a lot of drama. There was a definite possibility for a ménage à trois. The hard part would be getting Elena into it. It seems like Chloe would be all over that. lol
They also added a new guy to the group, Charles Cutter. He was a good addition to the group. He was a double agent at the beginning of the game playing both sides which made things very interesting. I was kind of upset with the fact that Chloe and Cutter were rarely used in this adventure. It would've been nice if they could've had them run a side mission in the middle east while Drake and Sully were in France. I'm all about prolonging the game experience that is Uncharted. This would've been a great addition to Uncharted 3. I would have loved to play as Cutter or Chloe in the game.
I think the thing that bothered me the most was the ending of the game. So you're in the Atlantis of the Sands and you finally catch up to Marlowe. In common Drake fashion you cause a lot of raucous and foil your enemies plans once again. I'm thinking, "Ok its gonna be Drake and Marlowe at the end of this." Marlowe is gonna turn into some kind of freak of nature and Drake is gonna have to find some kind of way to defeat her just as he did in Uncharted 2 with Lazaravic.
Unfortunately that didn't happen. Marlowe falls in some quicksand and Drake unsuccessfully tries to save her. Then on your way towards escaping "The Temple of Doom" you end up in a lame boss battle with Talbot, Marlowe's sidekick or second string as I like to call him.
That boss battle doesn't even measure up to the boss battle with Lazaravic in Uncharted 2 or even the one at the end of the first Uncharted game with Navarro. I felt Naughty Dog could have done better than that. I know it sounds like I'm complaining but I'm just saying what I feel. If you ask me pick a favorite out of the Uncharted Trilogy I'd say I like Uncharted 2 the best. It was an upgrade from the first one and a more complete game than the third. It was more complete with the story plot and it had more action.
Don't get me wrong, I still love Uncharted 3. There were a lot of moments in the game that I loved. The graphics were amazing. Seeing Drake's pre-adult story was kind of neat. It showed how Drake and Sully first met and how they became as thick as thieves. I also loved some of the mechanics that they used in the game like the ocean water and storms from chapters 13 through 17. It felt real with all the big waves and water heavily splashing on you. Also that old house being set on fire in France. I felt like I was really in that fire.
I think the best was the sand storm in the desert. The way they put that together was incredible. The sand seemed so seamless. Oh yeah to top that off you also have to deal with goons with guns. You really got to feel the sand while trying to navigate through it with Drake. All in all it was another great production by Naughty Dog. I just wish it can keep going on forever. I definitely can't wait for Uncharted: Golden Abyss. I will be playing that one month from now on my new PS Vita.
