PlayStation Home Gets A Make Over

Today is the day that PlayStation Home gets some new content added. With the new version 1.3 update you'll be able to Launch games from within Home. You'll also have in-store item previews and have the use of a camera to take pictures of your environment within the PS Home domain. Other inclusions will be custom tailored environments for select games such as Killzone 2 and Fall Out 3, more multiplayer functionality for games like MotorStorm and Far Cry. Some games will also have the added support of universal game launching. I'm still not totally sold on the whole Home gimmick but a lot of people like it. I don't know maybe I'm just old fashioned. I don't think the whole second life thing is for me especially when it comes to having to buy your digital apartment with real money. I have enough trouble paying for my real apartment. I like my money to be spend on more tangible items of use thank you. Here's a short video showing what's available with Home 1.3:

Chinatown Wars Coming To The PSP

Rockstar has finally gave in and decided to release Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for the PSP. I know this will make a lot of PSP GTA fans very happy since the game was initially released for the Nintendo DS. The announcement was made on Twitter yesterday by Rockstar games. The release for Chinatown Wars will be October 20 and will be available as a download from the PlayStation Store and as a UMD. I love the GTA games but I'm not a big fan of the top-down views. So I probably won't be into this game too much. It does look good though. Kudos to Rockstar.

New NBA 2K10 Trailer Featuring Kobe

Here's a trailer of the upcoming NBA 2K10 game featuring Kobe "The Closer" Bryant. You gotta love it. The Lakers lose to Boston in 08' come back in 09' and squash all the naysayers talk of the Lakers not being able to do it. Now Kobe is shining in the spotlight. It makes you wonder though. If Kobe and the Lakers didn't win the NBA championship this year who would be on the cover of the new 2K10 game? Anyways, heres the trailer:

The Anatomy of A PS3 Slim

If you're a true hardcore gamer like me, then you're someone love all aspects of gaming especially the blood and guts of your gaming hardware. I love to see what makes these game systems tick. I think I've taken apart just about every game system that I've owned except my PS3. I was too pretentious to take that apart. So I took apart someone else's PS3. Hey you'd be a little worried if you thought about taking apart something you paid almost $600 for too. This is a video I found from QJ.net via ifixit.com via Youtube of a PS3 being disassembled. On the inside the PS3 slim is a lot smaller than its predecessor. I know because I took an original PS3 apart a couple of days ago and it has a lot more parts with in its case. Enjoy the video!

Classic Game: The Revenge of Shinobi

If you loved Ninja Gaiden then you really loved The Revenge of Shinobi. I actually rate this higher than the original Ninja Gaiden but I give Ninja Gaiden credit for having the better story. To me its one of the best ninja games to ever come out. With The Revenge of Shinobi I was interested more with its game play, which was very fun. Now thinking back I don't know how I beat this game. Its not a walk in the park to finish but I also remember that it wasn't impossible to beat neither like the impossible Ninja Gaiden. The thing I liked the most was that Shinobi had powers of ninjitsu where as in Ninja Gaiden Ryu had a variety of different weapons. The ninjitsu powers that Shinobi had were the art of thunder, the art of fire, the art of floating, and the art of pulverizing. The most powerful ninjitsu was the art of pulverizing where Shinobi blows himself up killing everything on the screen. The downside is that you lose a life in doing so. Its worth it in crunch time situations like fight clearing a tough crowd or defeating a challenging boss. My favorite ninjitsu art was the art of fire. The screen gets filled with 5 strips of dragon fire and move horizontally across the path killing everything in sight. In the game you play as Joe Musashi, a master ninja whose wife is kidnapped and master slain by the Neo Zeed, a corrupt crime organization. This game takes place 3 years after the first Shinobi which I never played. Joe hears the last words from his dying master telling him of Neo Zeeds plot and sets of on a journey to save his wife. This would've been an even greater game if that had the little cut scenes like Ninja Gaiden did. The only thing you get in the game is a little synopsis after each level you finish. The game play completely makes up for it though. Shinobi fights in various environments. In the first level he fights at a province in Japan battling ninjas and samurais in dojos. The other levels include Tokyo, a Military Base, Detroit, Chinatown, New York, and the Neo Zeed stronghold. The bosses are pretty tough but manageable. There is some strategy to beating them. They even had the Terminator who turns into the green hulk when you get close to beating him. What's even crazier is that they had a boss in the 6 level that morphs into Spiderman and Batman. What's even more crazier than that is going up against Godzilla at the end of the 7th level. I didn't know what they were trying to go for at the time but whether it was coincidence or a gimmick, it kind of cool to see. My favorite thing about the game was the shurikin cheat. I don't think I would've been able to beat the game without this cheat. All you had to do was go to the options then go to the shurikin limit and set it to zero. After waiting awhile the double zeros will turn into a figure 8 giving you infinite shurikins. The shurikins are best used when doing a somersault flip in the air by pressing the jump button then pressing it again when you were in mid-air. When doing the somersault you press the shurikin button and you get a spray of shurikins shooting out all at once. Doing that numerous times helped me beat this game. I was really hoping for a Shinobi remake like they did for Ninja Gaiden but it hasn't happened yet. They had a Shinobi game for the Sega Saturn and the PlayStation 2 but those weren't up to par. Especially the one on the PlayStation 2. You're fighting all kinds of weird stupid creatures on that one; everything but a ninja. So I'm still waiting for a decent remake of Shinobi if you hear me out there Sega! All in all, Shinobi is one of the best ninja games ever made. I'm gonna bust this game out and play it for old time sake. You should too.

Last Night A DJ Saved My Life

First there was Guitar Hero, then there was Rock Band, and now there's DJ Hero. Now this is the one from the music gaming genre I've been waiting for. Forget the guitar. Let's bust out some turn tables! The music genre in gaming has really become a big hit with gamers. I just finally caught on earlier this year with Guitar Hero III. I'm not a pro with the guitar but I would like to try my hands on the one's and two's. I headed over to http://www.djhero.com/music to check out the playlist and they have everyone from the Foo Fighters to Jay-Z. The game has a pretty extensive range of music. I'm sure that when the game is released there will be more songs added to its music library via online. The best part is that DJ Jazzy Jeff is gonna be in the game. You know, Jazz from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, who used to always get thrown out by Uncle Phil. Just looking at the turntable it has just 3 buttons instead of 5. So I'm hoping it would be a lot easier than Guitar Hero. Nothing against Guitar Hero, I'm just not that good at it yet. DJ Hero is set for release is October 31. Here are some video's featuring game play of the game. Enjoy!

Alright, Hold It Right There Bub!

For the record I have to say this is probably the best Wolverine game I have ever played. And I've played a lot of them dating all the way back to the original Nintendo system. X-Men Origins: Wolverine was really fun to play. I played it nonstop from beginning to end. The game play was pretty awesome and filled with plenty of action. There is a lot of madness and mayhem in the game. There are dozens of enemies that come out of nowhere in this game all wanting to take your head off. I love that the developers kept this game mostly action based. There were a few puzzles, which were a little annoying, but like I said there was more action than brain teasers. I'll talk about the puzzle thing in another post. This was not a game where drones are just coming at you doing the same stupid thing over and over. The enemies definitely go for blood, especially the jungle natives. There were a lot of parts in the game where I just didn't know if I was gonna last long enough to make it to a save point. These enemies came out in droves as many as 6 to 7 at a time. Then after that another 6 or 7 guys came out. Luckily Wolverine has special tools & skills at his disposal. First and foremost Wolverine's bone claws, which later become adamantium claws, are the ultimate tools of death. In this game you're cutting every part of the anatomy off of your enemy. I was pretty impressed to see that. You can cut arms, heads, and legs off. You can rip guys in 2, yep 2 pieces. That reminds of Transformers when Jazz got ripped in two by Megatron. Really funny stuff. I was impressed by the many moves Wolverine had. If you grabbed you enemy in a certain angle or position you could perform a special animated action move. These happened when the enemies were close to death. You could tell they were dying because they would have a red aura outlined around their bodies. One of the special action moves would be grabbing an enemy and gutting them in mid-air then tossing them. Another, which is my favorite, would be Wolverine just taking his claws and digging into the enemy's bodies then ripping them to shreds. If you held the right trigger and any of the 4 main buttons on the Xbox 360 controller Wolverine performs a special attack. Those were the claw spin, claw cyclone, beserker rage, and the claw drill. This was a leveling game. The more you fought through the game the more experience you gained, hence you leveling up. I think I maxed out at level 40. That's as high as it would go. The game also gauged you on how well you fought the enemy by using a reflexes meter per enemy. The more you mixed it up in your fighting against a particular enemy the easier it was to beat them the next time around. Combos and continuations are definite plus in raising your reflexes level. Your skills were also gauged as well. Your skill sets could be raised by fighting and leveling up also by finding and collecting mutagens that boosted Wolverine's attributes. One of my favorite things to do was lunging at a bad guy from long range. You could see the terror in their face when they see you coming for them. Some are even on the ground backing away flailing their hands in the air as they brace for ultimate pain. It's so funny. Some even scream like little school girls. Another thing that I liked doing in the game was to throw guys around. You can grab them and throw them anywhere. I threw them off of buildings, cliffs, into each other, water, whatever. Something else that I liked about the game was that fact that you could use the environment around you. You could pick up a guy and impale him to the wall or throw a goon into a giant vent fan. If you don't comprehend things too well then this game is not for you. This game goes back and forth from old memories to present time events. I found it kind of annoying because you actually had to play through the old events to move on to the new ones which made the game really long. You definitely had to watch the cut scenes to keep up with what was going on. The game for the most part ran parallel to the movie but still had its own story to it. Eventually it ends the same as the movie does. The difference is that they added Mystique to the scenario. The bosses were pretty challenging. I enjoyed fighting the sentinel both on the ground and in the air. Flying through the air and slicing him up was really fun. Riding the Blob around and having him smash up the grocery store was hilarious. The annoying bosses were Gambit and "The merc with the mouth", Deadpool. These guys just couldn't stand still. They were just hopping all over the place. That really annoyed me. I think the best part of the game was searching for the dog tags. Some of those were pretty hard to find. I played this game through & through. I've got all the achievements to show for it. Wolverine is definitely the best at what he does. This is a game worthy of playing.

New Heavy Rain Trailer

I've been really keeping an eye on this Heavy Rain game. I'm looking forward to its release. I have a feeling that this might be a very good game to play. It looks like it will play out like feature length movie. Just from the pics and trailers it kind of reminds me of the Silent Hill series. The game is set for release Spring of 2010. Here's the latest trailer of the game:

Xbox 360 Elite Gets A Price Cut!

The Xbox 360 is getting a long over due price cut. This comes as Sony has just lowered the price to the PlayStation 3. The Elite will take a $100 price cut from $399 to $299. It sounds like this might be console war season. I really hate choosing sides that's why I have PS3 and a Xbox 360. Sony is definitely out of the gates with their recent announcements. Wal-Mart has an upcoming August 30th catalog that features the Elite at it's new price. So if you have any left over tax refund money head over to Wal-Mart and get yours now if you haven't already got one. Or you can buy Xbox 360 and new PS3 Slim for the price of an original PS3. Who says you can't have your cake and eat it too?

Michael Scofield Is Back At It Again!

As if to think 4 seasons of breaking out of jail wasn't enough! Michael Scofield is now doing all that and then some from a videogame. Prison Break is coming to home consoles. The game will be a side venture that runs in correlation to the first season of the show. It will also feature a lot of characters and climatic events from the first season of the action/suspense based series. There's not a lot of info on right now other than a lot of legal mumbo jumbo over publishing and work completed towards the development of the game. There is no set release date as of yet. Here are some screens shots from GameSpot:

EA Steps Up It's Game With NBA Live 10

Now you know I can't talk about NBA 2K10 without talking about NBA Live 10. Now I know I've been co-signing a little bit with the NBA 2K series but I also gotta give the NBA Live series some credit where it's due. NBA Live 95 is where it all started, basketball gaming evolution that is. There were other basketball games prior to Live 95 but none like it. This was the first serious basketball game where you could make give and go passes, timely assists, and take off in the air making signature dunks. It wasn't perfect but it was fun to play. I knew when that game came out other great basketball games would soon follow. I can't believe it's been almost 15 years since it's come out. You know what's so weird? EA Sports didn't have a 10 year celebration with it's series like 2K Sports is going to have. I remember when NBA Live 05 came out. There wasn't a big to do about the 10 year anniversary. I was pretty upset about that being a big EA Sports fan. I got over it quickly with the 2K series though. It seems that this year the guys over at EA Sports are going all out to make NBA Live 10 a contender against NBA 2K10. It was always hard for me to choose between these two games so every year I would get and play both of them. That's just me. I like having the best of both worlds. One game always had something different than the other. The NBA Live 09 game I had last year I barely played. The mechanics to the game just didn't feel right. I felt like I was running down the court with a robot or a stick figure. The game just wasn't smooth enough. From making the dribble moves to taking the shot, the game did not have any fluidity. NBA 2K9 was the obvious better choice. Well this year it seems that they've made it more of an even flow game. You can actually chase the ball down in this one when it gets loose. Gone are the lame robocop movements your player makes when you try to shake some one off the dribble. They've also tightened up on the animations making sure they coincide with the game play. EA Sports is really trying to dot their I's and cross their T's on this one. I think it's gonna be a pretty hard pick for gamers this year. Not for me because I'll be buying both titles. NBA Live 10 is set for release October 6. Here's some videos with the lead game designer for NBA Live 10, Mike Wang:

1999-2009: Ten Years of NBA 2K

I can't believe it's been 10 years since the first NBA 2K game came out. Time really flies. I remember when my brother introduced me to the game. I was still a heavy NBA Live fanatic. My brother was heavily trying to convince me that NBA 2K was better than NBA Live. I just didn't believe him until NBA 2k2 came out. I saw Allen Iverson's picture on the cover and I just had to play it. The game was unique and amazing. It was as close to playing in a real life NBA game as you could get at that time. I'm telling you the game play was that good. I quickly became a fan. Now the 2K series has exploded. Every year since the beginning it's been getting better and better. The installments of 2k7 to 2k9 have definitely put gamers right on the court. You feel as if you're the one on the floor making moves, schoolin' boys, and one arming it in the rim. The New 2K10 game looks really fresh. I can't wait until it comes out. I definitely wanna play with Ron Artest, who is now a Laker. There are so many new additions and changes to the game. One of my favorites is being able to play your created player online. Finally someone hears my plea. I've been waiting to do this with my created player online for a long time. You'll be able to play with other gamers and their digital counterparts in online pickup games. Depending on how well you play, you'll earn points to add to the attributes of your created player. Another feature is the "My Player" mode. With this mode you'll be able send your created player to NBA summer & training camps. There you will show and prove with your created player, vying for spots on an NBA team. Just as in the online pickup games, you earn points on how well you play used to add to your created players attributes. How much more real can it get than that? I'm definitely looking forward to this game. The game will be released October 6 just in time for the NBA season. Here are some screens from GameSpot.com:

Introducing The Videogame MashUp

I guess everyone in this day and age knows pretty much what a mashup is. You've got your music mashups like Linkin Park & Jay-Z and your music video mashups like the one's you see on MTV. Now there are, to my surprise, videogame mashups. It's a mashup where you take the vocals of an actual song and integrate with the background music of a videogame. One of my followers on Twitter posted a Youtube link of a user who goes by murphy341. He's done a lot of these and he's pretty good at it too. Check it out:

Sony's Got Me Going In Motions

It seems that this is the age of motion sensoring when it comes to gaming. Nintendo has done it, Microsoft is doing it, and now Sony has finally jumped on the band wagon with their introduction of their motion controller. It's similar to the Wii controller but it has a glowing ball on the end of it. It's used injunction with the PlayStation Eye Toy as it detects its movement. It's said to offer true 1:1 tracking and true 3D pointing. The expected release will be sometime around spring of next year. Here's a teaser trailer:

New Metal Gear Game At Gamescom 09'

You know its always good when Konami release another Metal Gear Solid series. I know I just can't get enough of it. Since the first release back in 98' I've been hooked. I know they had 2 previous releases back on the NES but I won't necessarily count those until they make remakes. This new Metal Gear Solid game is called Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. The game will be released for the PSP sometime next year according to IGN. It is said, or rumored as I should say, to be to follow the storyline of the Metal Gear Portable Ops game as its sequel. Here is a teaser trailer from Gamescom via Youtube:

I Thought I Told Ya That Favre Won't Stop

My Madden brothers, Favre is in the building. Man, luck has fallen upon us my Maddenites. How many more blessings can we get from the Madden gods? First we get Michael Vick back and Brett Favre has changed his mind once again to be the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings. Once again perfect timing before the season starts. I hope that means we'll be getting some timely Madden roster updates before the NFL season opener.

PS3 3.0 Update Features

Here is video of the upcoming PS3 3.0 update features. There is no confirmed release date yet. I was hoping they would mention it in the video but unfortunately they didn't. They've made a lot of visual changes to the XMB. They've also added some new features as well. Check out the video:

PS3 Slim Announcement by CEO Jack Tretton

PS3 Slim Unboxing by GameSpot

Here is an un-boxing of the PS3 Slim courtesy of GameSpot. Enjoy!

Will The Real PS3 Slim Please Stand Up!

Remember that blog I posted last week with phony PS3 slim pics? Yeah, scratch that because the "Real McCoy" is standing right before you. I knew those pics from last week had to be photoshopped that's why I pulled the CYA(Cover Your Ass) move and said that they weren't gonna be confirmed until today which was just the fact. I just hate when people make fake pics. Kaz Hirai, President and CEO of Sony, introduced the PS3 slim model today at Gamescom 09' Expo in Cologne, Germany. A few changes have be made. For one thing the price has been lowered to $300. Another thing is that the PS3 has been obviously chopped down to size. Gone is the piano black gloss that was on the original and replaced with a darker texture-based surface. I don't have a problem with that because the piano gloss smooth surface attracts a lot of lint which is kind of annoying. It comes with a 120Gb hard drive which I'm upset about because my original PS3 has only a 60GB hard drive. It's all good because I checked Playstation.com and found out that I can upgrade my hard drive to one with more capacity which is cool. They built the PS3 Slim from the ground up right down to its cell processor. The PS3 Slim encompasses a newly designed 45nm (nano meter) processor that runs at the same speed of its 60nm predecessor. With this change made the PS3 runs more efficiently and provides less power consumption. It has built in Wi-Fi, just as the original 80 and 60GB models, and 2 USB ports instead of the original 4. The new design takes me back to when Sega revamped the Genesis and gave it that nice sleek black look. All in all I'm pretty impressed with the new PS3 look. Like I've said, I already have the original. It's in great condition and there's no need for me to go out and grab the new. It still has the same software and programming. So I can't say out with the old and in with the new just yet. The PS3 Slim will be available for release the first week of September but I've heard that Game Stop won't be releasing it until September 24. Don't be surprised if you're not able to grab one right away.

It's All About That Glove Love

I remember getting this for Christmas in 1990 when I was 10 years old. I was so excited. The power glove looked so bad ass at the time. It was about $25 and I begged my mom at Toys R Us to buy it for me. The same day I got it I had also received the NES Powerball game made especially for the Power Glove. I was geeked and ready to play with it. The glove came with these sensors that you had to place on or around your TV so that it could pick up the signals from it. The really discouraging part was reading the manual. Now being a naive young 10 year old I thought all I had to do was put the glove on and start playing. Nope, that wasn't the case. I found out that every game that you played with the Power Glove had an initial code that you were supposed to enter on the it before playing the game. The lame part was that it didn't automatically respond to your hand movements. Each game had a set of hand gestures or particular movements that you had to make. It was like learning freakin' sign language. On top of that the games that were used with the Power Glove were only a select few. I never really got it to work. I think I had a problem with my sensors. So the aura of the Power Glove only lasted for about a few days after Christmas then it just became a part of my toy collection. I basically used it as prop in one of my make believe sessions when I played as Lion-O from the Thundercats using his lion claw glove. The main reason I wanted it was so I could play Mike Tyson's Punch Out. Then I saw all the signs and hand gestures I had to make and I quickly realized that it just wasn't gonna work out. I was so disappointed. The worst part was that it was a right handed glove. I'm a lefty. I don't know whatever happened to that thing. Talk about good times. I'm surprised they haven't revamped it for the Nintendo Wii. I think it would sell pretty well. The Power Glove was definitely way ahead of its time. It's neat to know that we actually had the Nintendo Wii's technology 20 years ago. Man I'm getting old. Here's some video featuring the glove in it's hey day:

KOF XII Revisited

Let me just say this, you are not gonna see me badmouthing games on here too many times but if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck then I gotta tell it like it is. I finally got my copy of KOF XII and you get definitely do not get what you paid for. The first thing I noticed when I played the game this morning were the not so eye-popping graphics. In my book the graphics reel you in, the game play eases you into a state of stimulation, and the story holds you down for the entire ride. 2 out of 3 were not in this game. Game had looked as if it was ported from the Super Nintendo or Sega Genesis. The characters looked unfinished. You can still see the sprites that outline them. They have blocky edges which is annoying to see. The game is pretty simplistic. The object is to beat the game with your fighters in a record amount of time. That's it, that's all folks. So I played with my favorite characters Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard, and Joe Higashi and finished the game a little over 8 minutes. I even got a achievement for my time being slow on the Xbox 360. I can't believe 8 minutes is slow in a fighting game. I think it takes maybe 35 to 40 minutes tops to finish a Street Fighter game playing only one round matches. And that's if your really good at playing the game. Most of the achievements are online based. There are about 4 or 5 based on finishing the game in a timely fashion. The characters are pretty much the same as far as playability is concerned. I was able to use Terry Bogard, my favorite player, the same with ease just as I would in any other KOF game. They even took out the character banter between the fighters. There were no beefs and no after statement for when a fighter wins a match. Nothing but cheesy match commentary. I don't know why they do that. Poorly played out dialog scripts. It just sounds so fake to me. Why bother putting it in? After you beat the game that's it. There's not really a lot of key elements in the game. They made it as straight forward as possible which is to finish the game in record time. If your time is good enough it get's posted online. I think my quickest time in a match was 1 minute and 16 seconds. Talk about fast huh? You can't do that in a Street Fighter game. Save your money people this game is not worth playing. I was done with the game when I saw the graphics. Stick to Street Fighter 4 for now. Or if you want buy it because you love the KOF series. As for me, I'm going to play the other KOF games like KOF 94-2002. Those are still fun to play to me.

Introducing The Xbox Micro

I love innovation and creativity. I also love the lengths that people go reach to make innovation happen. I was just browsing around and ended up on Engadget.com where I found this nice little find. A do-it-yourself guy just basically took the original Xbox and made it his own literally and dubbed it the Xbox Micro. It's basically just a third of what the original Xbox is. Very slim and light on the trim. It runs with a 2.5" 320gb hard drive and 2 CPU cooling heatsink fans for the graphics processor and main cpu. This is comparable to one of Ben Heck's creations. Imagine if you could market and sell a bunch of these. I'd definitely buy one. I just love creativity like this. Here are some more pics:
