It's about that time again. Yep Madden season is finally here. It seems like yesterday that Madden 09 came out marking Madden & EA Sports' 20 year successful venture. Now Madden 10 is out to continue the tradition. I just played the demo on my Xbox 360 this morning. You actually get to play a whole 5 minute quarter game. This game is a little bit different from Madden 09 game. One thing that's different is that their are no more run or pass play defensive commits. Now this is just what I've seen from the demo. It might change up when the actual game comes out. It kind of sucks because I was quite fond of just quickly setting my defense to whatever the offense committed to. Its all about the grit and grind with this years Madden. Its kind of remi
niscent of Madden 06. No one will get easy breaks like they did with 09. In 09 there were a lot of things that happened in the game that shouldn't have happened like too many missed tackles, easily missed passes, and calls the refs had no business calling. There's none of that in Madden 10 from what I've played. You have to earn your keep in this one. The defense is a lot stronger. From the looks of it you're not gonna get a lot of break away runs. The defense surrounds you like a mob. They literally try to drag you down to the ground. That's a pretty neat feature. If you're on offense you can also drag the defense trying to get to the first down marker or score the touchdown. The passing seems pretty straight forward and direct. You get some really good looks at who you wanna throw to. Don't get carried away though you can easily get picked just the same. If you're a scrambler who likes to run out of the pocket like me beware. You're not gonna have much luck running around looking for a decent throw. The defense gets on you fast. Its better to get your looks from within the pocket. If you feel like you need to move about more use the offensive line shift and set it to pinch. That really worked for me. They still have the preplay controls which is always a pleasure to have. It gives you
a decent chance of stopping the offense. There are no more easy quarterback sneaks either. The holes through defense are small to get through. I found that out trying to sneak a touchdown with Kurt Warner on the one yard line. In 09 I used to take a step then just dive in to get the score. It's not that easy anymore. The downside is that there was no commentating in the demo. I would have liked to have heard Madden talking about the nature of football or Tom Hammond & Chris Collingsworth calling the game. All in all I enjoyed playing the demo. In the demo you choose between the Arizona Cardinals or the Pittsburgh Steelers. I ran with the Cardinals because I felt they should've won the Superbowl. Steelers got lucky and stole it. The game really levels out. It's a game where nobody is easily gonna get beaten as long as they know how to play. You really have to work for the win. I look forward to playing it when it releases August 14, a little under 2 weeks. So if you haven't play the demo yet download it now. You guys decide whether Madden 10 is a make or bust.
