Gears of War 3 gets leaked! The most anticipated game of the year unfortunately got leaked. The news of the leak was reported over the weekend via various sources. The game was leaked onto torrent sites and various forums. Epic states that the particular game that was released was not the actual game but an unfinished beta build that is only playable on JTAG enabled modded Xbox 360 system that are used in development kits. Its clearly unfinished from the video I saw on YouTube. I actually found somebody that posted 14 minutes of the first mission of the game. They also have footage of the gameplay from the second chapter.
The science of the "leak" is amazing. I always wonder whatever developers, artists, or movie producers are working on how it gets leaked out to the public. You probably have to have balls of steel to take someone's works of production and just push it out to the world before its actually ready to be unveiled. Its either that or no sense of consideration at all for the people that create it. I believe its always the people that work closely with them. That's how these's leaks are happening.
Remember when the Wolverine movie was in production and it was leaked? It was someone who worked on the crew of that movie that leaked it. What about music artists? I believe the theft of their work is more rampant. A lot of their music is leaked by people on the inside like DJs and promo crews who get early copies of their work. I don't think they should be worried about the people who get it. They should me more worried about the people who leak it out. Right now in the media world there are too many leaks.
Luckily this particular leak doesn't really affect Epic Games. The Gears of War franchise remains intact. If you watch the video from YouTube there are a lot of objects still in green wire frame. I for one don't like playing unfinished games. Plus you miss out on a lot of things that they actually put in the final release.
