I played my copy of Dante's Inferno that I purchased from Gamestop back in February last night. I hadn't played it for awhile because I've been stuck on a NBA 2K grind so I thought I would get back into it. This title is pretty good for a game based off an epic poem. It actually makes me want to go and read the damn poem. The game rivals that of God of War and the Devil May Cry series. I always love these "The end is near and the Apocalypse is now" type of games. Then there's always just one guy to handle the giant task of defeating hellish minions then working their way up to the grand master demon. Yeah, these are my kind of games. I put myself in the roles of these character and I feel like the major badass. lol
Ok so here's the gist of the story. Dante goes off to fight in this holy war, The Crusades. The priest operating the whole function says that God will absolve him and the other crusaders of all of their future sins in which they would take part of during the war. The priest basically tells a bold face lie to their faces. Dante gets mortally wounded and gets a nice little visit from the Grim Reaper. The Grim Reaper has his one way ticket to hell but Dante refuses. The Grim Reaper doesn't take it too well so they duke it out.
Dante defeats the Grip Reaper and takes his scythe. Later he makes his trip back home only to find his woman, Beatrice, dead but manages to speak to her spirit. Apparently Beatrice made a deal with a demon to see Dante one last time before she gets owned by the demon. So they see each other for the last time and the Demon whisks her away to the underworld. Dante is not having it so he starts his mission to save his sweet Beatrice's soul.
I love the story. They really put you in the game. It's a very eery environment in Hell. The gameplay of Dante's Inferno is very fast and fluid. I can put combo's together very easily stringing together long combinations. My goal is to get that 666 combo trophy. It shouldn't be too hard. You can also counter your enemies moves. Dante has some neat tricks as well. He punish his enemies or choose to absolve them of their sins. Doing one or both of these activies increases either your absolution or punishment levels allowing you to earn new skills. The more soul you earn the more skills you can purchase.
I'm still early on in the search for Beatrice. So far I've defeated the Grim Reaper, Charon, and the underworld Judge, King Minos. So I still have a ways to go. This is a great game to play. The farther you progress the more special extras you unlock like movies from the game, interviews from the game developers, even a piece about the poem itself and its author. There is also a bunch of DLC content to buy as well such as the Trials of St. Lucia. If you don't have this game right now you better get it because its a good buy. It's at a very good price right now. I purchase my copy for $17.99. It might be even cheaper now.
