Imagine if every myth, conspiracy theory and urban legend was true. Imagine a world where you can become anything you want to be, without restrictions such as classes or levels. This is the premise for The Secret World, Funcom’s upcoming massively multiplayer online game set in the modern-day real world. ~ via TheSecretWorld.com
I think I may have stumbled upon a nice little game here. You wouldn't guess by the early trailers that this game is an MMO but it actually is. It's an MMO that's not your traditional MMO. Do you catch my drift? No, ok I'll explain. This particular game is and will not be governed by classes, or levels. So you don't have to level up to gain extra strenghth or powers. Although there are certain things you still need to do to achieve those qualities. You can fight in missions or you can engage in other activities that will benefit your team.
You basically be who you want to be in the game and play the way you like. You literally become your own person in this game. You create an alter ego to your liking using a free-form customization system that allow you to choose your own powers and weapons creating your own path. There are various weapons and powers to choose from. There are no set story roles for you to follow. You go your own way making your own story.
Explore known and unknown locations throughout the modern-day world. Imagine a world where vampires hunt for mortal blood in London nightclubs, where werewolves hide in the New York subways, and where demons lurk in the shadows of Seoul. Imagine no more. Step into the secret world. ~ via TheSecretWorld
This is not your regular MMO. Most MMOs are set in a dark fantasy-medieval type setting but this one is set in modern day and is very story driven. The theme of the game as most MMOs are themes is fighting dark evil. So in this game you'll be in a group of one of three factions who have the same notion of defeating evil but also thrive for power fighting against on another. You must choose to join of the three.
I don't play MMOs at all but with this different change of how MMOs can be played in the future I think that I might make that jump. The trailers alone draw me in. Check out the trailers for yourself:
